Grön Fuels, LLC is a new $9.2 billion renewable fuels complex in West Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana. The first phase of the project CAPEX is projected in excess of $1.25 billion creating 340 direct jobs by 2024 and will produce 60,000 barrels per day (BPD) of renewable diesel with a permitted jet fuel option. At full build-out, the complex would involve over $9.2 billion in total investment and would employ upwards of 1,025 direct employees.

We are extremely proud to be working with this new leading-edge, world-class facility. As our world faces an existential threat from global climate change, this facility is designed to produce 60,000 barrels per day of low-carbon fuel. Diesel produced from Project Grön will contain no fossil-based carbon, thus eliminating 10.3 million tons of new CO2 each year. Over the anticipated 50-yr life of the plant, it will result in a savings of half a trillion tons of CO2. That is a meaningful step forward toward reducing the U.S. overall carbon footprint.

In spite of the ever-present and threatening COVID-19 pandemic, CSRS assembled a comprehensive team to lead site selection efforts, provide governmental advisory, assist with incentive negotiations, provide site due diligence, permitting preparation and management, and owner’s representation.

CSRS led a comprehensive team of internal personnel, in addition to management and coordination of subcontractors for critical aspects of the project including on-the-ground due diligence (Geotechnical Investigations, Site Development, etc.), tax consulting, and air permitting.

Project Success

CSRS directed and managed the overall permitting strategy enabling the company to secure their air permits in record time, thus significantly reducing a primary obstacle to starting of construction. The ever-present pandemic did not impact the project schedule at any time.

Project Challenges and Solutions

CSRS worked closely with the Project Grön team on this fast-track project during the site selection and start-up phase. Numerous issues/barriers to success were identified and eliminated during this critical time, while the entire US was in lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
