West Virginia Economic Development Strategic Planning Workshop

The State of West Virginia, through its Department of Development and Department of Environmental Protection, engaged CSRS to facilitate a strategic planning workshop to increase their economic competitiveness with a particular focus on chemical and petrochemical manufacturing. The goal of the strategy workshop was to identify West Virginia’s strengths and weaknesses and develop long-term strategies to capitalize on increased oil and gas production in the Marcellus shale. A particular focus for growth was in the downstream chemical and petrochemical manufacturing sectors.

CSRS was the prime consultant and led the strategic planning workshop.  Our team was responsible for researching and preparing background materials for the workshop, facilitating the strategic planning workshop, and developing action items for implementation. The results of the strategic planning workshop included recommendations and initiatives to increase competitiveness in the economic development industry and increase corporate investment in West Virginia.

Project Success

The project resulting in identifying the strengths and weaknesses of West Virginia within the competitive context of the petrochemical industry.  As a result of the workshop, we were able to provide strategies and recommendations to increase the competitiveness of West Virginia.
